The mission of the Monroe City Marshal's Office is to serve the Monroe City Court and citizens of Ouachita Parish with the highest degree of professionalism in law enforcement, and to protect and enhance public safety.
Functions of the Marshal's Office
By law the Monroe City Marshal's Office is the executive branch of the Monroe City Court. The Marshal has the same arrest power as the Sheriff of Ouachita Parish and the Deputy Marshals have the same arrest power as the Marshal. The Marshal is responsible for not only the City of Monroe, but wards three (3), four (4), and ten (10) within the jurisdictions of Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. It is the responsibility of the Marshal to maintain the number of employees necessary to carry out the daily functions and requests of the Monroe City Court. The Marshal's Office is responsible for the court orders and mandates handed down by the Monroe City Court on a daily basis.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week, meaning that National Police Week 2012 will be Saturday, May 12th through Friday, May 18th.
